How Famvir Works
Famvir gets metabolized into an active anti-viral agent called penciclovir by the liver. This compound shows an inhibitory activity against the HSV-1, HSV-2 and VZV (varicella zoster virus). Once the drug is administered, the cells infected with the virus phosporylate penciclovir into mono-phosphate form. This in-turn gets converted into penciclovir tri-phosphate. It is believed that this penciclovir tri-phosphate acts by inhibiting the DNA polymerase of the virus. Consequently, the drug interferes with the DNA synthesis of the virus. Thus Famciclovir selectively inhibits the replication of the DNA in the virus. It reduces the viral growth in the body. Additionally the drug reduces the spread of the virus in the body.
Advantages of Famvir
Famvir has a major advantage when compared to other medications that are intended to treat genital herpes. A patient can start the treatment with the drug as soon as the signs of any outbreak appear. It can be taken at higher doses for treating the symptoms associated with the genital herpes or it can be taken at low doses. Low dosage of drug can be administered for longer duration and can be used for the prevention of any outbreaks associated with genital herpes. Also, once you buy Famvir it can be administered for a period of up to one year.
Famvir is generally contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive or allergic to it or to any of its contents. Patients with renal diseases must administer the drug with caution and with doctor's advice only. High doses of the drug in patients with renal disease may lead to renal failure or renal impairment. Pregnant women must avoid the administration of the drug. However, if it needed then the drug should be administered with the doctor's advice only. The drug should not be administered by nursing mothers. Use of the drug in pediatric population is contraindicated. The drug should not be administered in patients less than 18 years of age.
Side Effects Of Famvir
Each patient may respond to the drug differently. Some patients may have no side effects while others may show one or several side effects. Common and less serious side effects of Famvir may include headache, fatigue, sleepiness, dizziness, confusion, diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting. The drug may also cause mild itching or mild rashes on the skin. Inform your doctor about these side effects while you are continuing the treatment with Famciclovir. Some patients may experience serious allergic reactions which may include difficulty in breathing, hives or swelling in the throat, tongue, lips or face. These allergic reactions must be reported to the physician.
The dosage of cheap Famvir is recommended to be 125 mg or 250 mg each day. These are doses that can be used for a long-term basis in order to prevent the patient from getting the infection in the future. One of the 2 doses mentioned above (125 mg or 250 mg) may be selected and adhered to for administration, with the help of a doctor. The maximum recommended dose is 500 mg.
