Influenza

Influenza is the most common kind of illness that affects both adults and children alike depending on the strain of virus. Older people are more susceptible to the virus. Influenza is air borne and it spreads when infected people cough or sneeze. If a person is infected and not treated in time, influenza can lead to more serious complications like pneumonia. The common name for the infection is the 'Flu'. It affects the respiratory organs and is generally curable within a week. However, there are cases when the illness is stubborn and can take more than a week to subside.
Tamiflu is one of the most effective drugs used to combat influenza. It equips the body's immune system with the required power to fight the flu virus. Oseltamavir is a neuraminidase inhibitor. This class of drugs is also used in the treatment of avian flu. Tamiflu or Oseltamavir is most effective when it is administered within 48 hours of the flu symptoms occurring.
Relenza
Relenza is a drug used in the treatment of influenza in both adults and children who are over the age of 7 years. The active ingredient in the drug is Zanamivir. Relenza is taken in the form of inhalation and it can be used to treat the A and B viruses when the infection is not at a stage where there are complications. In order for Zanamivir to be effective, the flu symptoms should be no more than 2 days old.
