How Mercilon Works
Levels of oestrogen and progesterone change throughout the menstrual cycle. These changes are essential for ovulation. The active ingredients of Mercilon, ethinylestradiol and desogestrel, mimic naturally occurring sex hormones in women and inhibit the growth and release of the eggs from the ovary. Desogestrel component of the pill thickens the cervical mucus making it difficult for sperms to reach the ovum. The net effect of these is prevention of pregnancy.
